Developing with coffee…

Unconvinced by something that i’d read that claimed that it was possible to develop a roll of black and white film at home using only household items, I set about experimenting to see if it was true. The first recipe that drew my attention was not for processing film but paper prints. The though of trashing a few sheet of paper was much easier to bear than a whole lovingly-shot film, so i started with paper.

mselt: Caffenol for paper prints

Digital images, projected through a broken enlarger onto Ilford MG paper and developed using Caffenol and sort of fixed with Salt.

The above prints were developed using the following Caffenol.org Recipe – 900ml Water, 12tsp Coffee granules, 6tsp Soda Crystals, 3tsp Vitamin C Power

1000ml (1l) Water, 24g Washing soda, 20g Vitamin C, 45g Instant coffee. *Mixed Coffee and Soda seperate, as it makes it easier to see if the Soda is completely dispersed. Fixed in 1+9 ilford radip fix for 6min

The above film (120 TMAX 100 iso outdated 99 Delta STD with x 2 bit c, Ilford fix.) was not developed using the Delta-STD recipe again care of caffenol.org

Sadly the rolls were completely clear, not even headers showing. My guess is that i made a mistake with the replenisher amount for my fix which stripped the films completely.
